Giancarlo de Carlo & Urbino Interventions

The walled city of Urbino is an interesting city where you feel like you are in an artificial time or that you walked into a fairy tale... Things that you dont expect to see might pop up anytime...

Hello there,
My name is Altamash. I am a student from the Department of Urban Design, “The School of Planning & Architecture”, New Delhi, India. I am currently in my 4th and final semester pursuing my thesis. My thesis topic is “Integration of Urban Village”. I have been suggested by my Head of the Department, Mr. K.T. Ravindran, to do a case study on the city of Urbino in this regard. I am not able to find the pertinent material on this. It would be very kind of you if you could furbish me with maps, plans, images, the proposals, the interventions, the result after the proposals, the humane aspect of the intervention, the stakeholders, the concerned authorities and other such requisite data. In case you do not have any such data then could you kindly suggest the right link or the concerned person to follow up for the same.
Thanking You!

Yours Gratefully,

Dear Altamash,
I have studied the Urbino case in terms of integration of contemporary structures within the historic walled town. In your case the book written by Giancarlo de Carlo himself called "Urbino: the history of a city and plans for its development" (MIT Press, 1970)can be helpful, especially in terms of maps. In addition, it is a highly published case in many journals such as Architectural Record and Casabella during the 1975s...
Hope that helps x
Hacer.
